Subgroups
Clay Homeschoolers is organized into
smaller subgroups so that members may interact with others with similar
goals in various activities. Subgroups vary in the type and amount of
activities offered. Regardless of subgroup affiliation, all members
are welcome to participate in whole group activities throughout the year.
Below you will find a description of
this year's subgroups (2009-2010)
Subgroup 1:
This subgroup is led by Anna, one of our founding members who also currently
serves as our Vice President. Anna and her husband have been homeschooling
for 14 years and have graduated their oldest son. They continue to
school their other four children at home. This group will include
activities such as monthly fieldtrips, park days, and mom’s nights, as well
as, special holiday celebrations including Thanksgiving, Valentines, Easter
and a Mother’s Tea. This group is for families of all ages and grades, new
and veteran homeschoolers that will encourage each other in their homeschool
voyage. Come join the excitement!

Subgroup 2:
This subgroup led by Laurie is in its third year. We are a Christian
based group with about 7-10 families. The ages of children range from
first grade to seventh grade although we welcome all ages. We do not
require that you attend a certain number of events. Our activities
include monthly field trips, park days, special events such as Snow Day and
Breakfast Club. Our Breakfast Club is a monthly meeting where everyone
brings a breakfast item, we eat together and then the students do their
schoolwork together while the moms have our monthly planning meeting.
We also have a mom's night out that we do periodically. Come join us
for a close knit group that has lots of fun together!

Subgroup 3:
This subgroup is led by Kim with activities focusing on opportunities for
learning and fellowship primarily among families with preschool through elementary
aged school age children. The majority of activities for the group may
include all family members and span all ages; however there will be some
Moms only events, preschool only events and school age only events.
Activities offered will include: regularly scheduled park days, field
trips, seasonal parties, special events, Moms Nights Out and Moms Meetings
for information sharing and encouragement.
P.R.E.P. (Personal Relational Encouragement
for Preparing to homeschool) activities will be coordinated by two
seasoned homeschool moms within our group ; and will include mentoring of
new to homeschooling families and families whose oldest child is preschool
age (will turn four by January 2010).
Members of this group should plan to actively participate in the group and
will be required to serve on one of our committees. Committees will include
the following: Preschool, Field Trips, Parties, Moms Night Out,
Sunshine/Prayer, and Special Events.
Our
group maintains an active website (http://www.homeschool-life.com/fl/chs)
for ongoing group communication, general homeschooling resources, helpful
links and more. Members are asked to utilize the site to stay informed of
events. Group members may also choose to be included in our annual
memory/year book.

Subgroup 4:
For High School Students Only:
This group is led by Amy, who along with her husband, has been blessed
with their five children. This group is to
provide fellowship activities for high school
age students only (9th-12th
grade). Activities will include 2 monthly events, one held at a host home
and the other at a chosen destination. Amy’s vision for this group is to be
led by the youth themselves and facilitated by at least 2 adults at each
event. We are very excited about this group and have many ideas in the
making. If you have younger siblings and you wish to choose another group
that will meet the needs of your family, please specify this on your
application.
Subgroup 5:
This is the "low profile" subgroup. This group plans no field trips,
park days or meetings of its own. Members are free to participate
fully in Clay Homeschoolers large group activities that are not subgroup
based (i.e. testing, open field trips, achievement night, etc.) Some
subgroups will open their activities and field trips to the large group that
you are free to participate in. You can keep abreast of all news and
events via email. (By providing self-addressed envelopes, newsletters
can be mailed to members not having email.) Members of this group
generally have their fellowship needs met in other places and only wish to
participate in the large group activities.
